"There's a 30” drawer base to left and an 18” to right, but 30” headers to keep balance. However, by introducing earthy textures the kitchen did not become sterile. The glass tile backsplash, stone floor, and granite countertops all played off the copper strip, moving away from cold contemporary to a little more warmth.The stainless steel slab door starts off this kitchen's very linear look.
Long stainless steel handles continue the contemporary linear flow. We used a copper strip above and below the cabinets to break up the stainless steel look while maintaining the clean line. Symmetry was crucial in this design, evident in the island's drawers."

Offset the gray Northwest with
vibrant reds and warm materials.
"Vibrant, rich reds and yellows offset gray Northwest days in this rustic log home designed for a family with a casual waterfront lifestyle. The use of knotty alder works for any rustic environment, but is currently a Northwest favorite. The door style is a basic pegged Shaker with quirk moulding inside the frames.
Red stained cabinets are glazed and distressed for a more natural look. The hammered copper island top and hammered pewter pulls and knobs reflects the client's desire to be surrounded by warm, natural materials. Wood flooring, beams, and walls?all made from Alaskan timber? further emphasize the wooded region."

Contrast textures, materials,
and lines for an Art & Crafts result.
"The frame itself is cherry, while the doors and panels are a stained maple, which brought a simple, interesting contrast to a large space. We took the cabinets right up to the ceiling, with a horizontal rail separating the lower from upper cabinets. The trolley-like piece in the roomĄ¯s center echoes the cabinetry, with a maple top and cherry base. The floor has the same contrast of material and lines, with fir in the kitchen and oak in the adjoining space. A built-in buffet matches the cabinetry for an integrated feel.
The house itself is a 1912 farmhouse so it falls into an early Arts & Craft category. It calls for a fairly simplistic design, a clean Arts & Crafts theme, not too fussy. We used flush frame cabinetry, whereby the doors are let into the frame. ."
